When contacted, Videocon Industries’ CMD Venugopal N
Dhoot confirmed the development. He said the idea of
inducting an experienced partner goes well with
Datacom’s plan to grab a substantial chunk of the Indian
telecom market—the world’s second-fastest growing
market—in three years.
“A partner with the expertise in this business coupled
with our marketing strength would be a formidable
combine,” he said. Videocon is a leader in the consumer
durable business. It also has a chain of 900 retail
showrooms called NEXT which sells mobile phones and
other electronic goods.
